The Chrysostom Society nominated author Doug Basler as the first Luci Shaw Fellow. He attended the Chrysostom gathering’s annual meeting in California in 2025 as their guest author, where he met the Chrysostom members and shared about his first published book All Swirling and Weaving: Reflections on Reading Fiction and Growing in Faith. The book’s foreword was written by Chrysostom member Marilyn McEntyre.

Basler is a Presbyterian pastor in Des Moines, Iowa, and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in the Sacred Art of Writing from the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination at Western Theological Seminary and a M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell. The Luci Shaw Writers Fellowship Fund was created in 2024 in honor of our beloved founding member and outstanding poet Luci Shaw to further our mission of supporting writers early in their careers whose work and lives are shaped by the Christian faith. Donations can be made at any time to the Fund to support more writers like Basler.
