
It has officially been 30 years since the incorporation of the Chrysostom Society. With 26 current members, the society continues to fulfill its mission of producing quality literature, mentoring writers, lecturing in public venues, and publishing collaborative works on faith.
A few members earned notable awards in 2025 for their recent books, including:
- Teacher of Nomad Land by Daniel Nayeri won the 2025 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and garnered his second Newbery Honor Book Award. Explore the magic of Nayeri’s books here.
- A Desert Between Two Seas—A. Muia’s novel in linked stories about the Spanish missions of Baja California, Mexico—earned the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction, became a finalist for the Iowa Short Fiction Award, and was chosen as a 2026 Top Pick for the Southwest Books of the Year. - Ben Myers’ Black Sunday, a collection of sonnets, was named “One of the Five Best Stories of the Dust Bowl” by The Wall Street Journal. Read more of his writing here.
- A starred review from Library Journal was awarded to Daniel Taylor’s novel The Prodigal of Leningrad. Discover his other fiction and nonfiction.
- Sarah Arthur’s second Carrick Hall novel Once A Castle was a 2025 finalist for a Christian Book Award in Young People’s Literature.
There were many other writing projects Chrysostom members saw published in 2025, including:
- Founding Chrysostom member Luci Shaw passed away in December 2025 at age 96, but even in her final year she continued to write and saw her newest poetry collection released April, An Incremental Life (Paraclete).
- Paul Willis brings to life Orvieto, Italy, in his recent poetry chapbook, Orvieto (Solum Literary Press).
- Matthew Dickerson attends to creation in Birds in the Sky, Fish in the Sea (Square Halo Books).
- Diane Glancy captivates with her newest poetry collection The Cubist and the Lost Notebooks of the Painter’s Wife (Wipf & Stock).
- Jill Baumgartner inspires us with poems paired with images in The Shapes Are Real: Poems on the Sculptures of Liviu Mocan (Cascade Books).
A few works by members to watch for in 2026:
- Marilyn McEntyre’s newest book Start With a Word: On the Craft and Adventure of Writing (Eerdmans) released in February.
- Also published in February was Diane Glancy’s creative nonfiction-hybrid biography Lazarus: The Intended Writings and the Promise of Forever (Turtle Point Press). In addition, Glancy saw her play The Leveret about Antonio Cruzado, the architect and builder of the San Gabriel Mission, produced by The Tent for 11 performances from February 2–21 in New York City.
- Liturgical Press will publish The Forgotten Map: Gen Z, and the Quest for Hope and Meaning by Paula Huston.
- Robert Hudson has several new books to share. In March, the revised edition of The Art of the Almost Said: A Christian Writer’s Guide to Writing Poetry (Credo Publications) became available. In May, the updated 5th edition of The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style (Zondervan/HarperCollins Christian) will release. And come April, four new chapbooks from Perkipery Press will launch at the Calvin Festival of Faith and Writing. His wife Shelley Townsend-Hudson even has her third book of poems coming out at the same time called Whatever You Love You Are (Chapbook Press).
